There are a lot of reasons why parents might want to look into sending their child to camp for a portion of the summer and one of the issues that might prevent the parents from actually taking a look at the camp before a child is brought there is the location. Many parents will automatically use a camp referral service that will only suggest camp locations that are close to the home where the family lives, but it’s entirely possible for older children to travel across the entire country for camp and for these types of facilities there are always shuttles and people who will pick a child up when they arrive at their destination.
It should go without saying that a camp that is located very far away from where the parents are located might incur some extra costs for the family. While a camp that is a day’s ride away could likely be driven by the parents to get their child to the location, especially if the child’s stay is due to be more than a few weeks, if a camp is in an entirely different state, air travel might be a part of the equation, which likely adds anywhere from a few hundred to much more money to the overall cost of camp.
Some parents might feel most comfortable if their child is at a location that isn’t far away and this is entirely fine since there are camps available just about everywhere around the United States, even in very remote areas.
