I’ve had a difficut time lately with work, school and managing the kids. Life for me has been a struggle lately. My son is in second grade and I have to pay for daycare to take care of him in the mornings and after school, as well.
There’s a lady by the name of Mrs. Bass that makes sure that he gets to school on time in the mornings and then makes sure he makes it back to the apartment in the afternoon. She’s handicapped, but seems to take good care of him. I just can’t afford anything else, right now.
My car has been giving me a lot of trouble lately. I’ve had to have the alternator, air conditioning condenser and the starter replaced all in the last 3 months. It’s on it’s last leg, I’m afraid. Seems like once a car is paid off, that’s when little things start to happen (if they’re little bills the way mechanics charge). I would like to get something better, but I have ended up with really bad credit since the divorce. My ex had several credit card accounts that he had opened in my name (much to my surprise). The minimum payments were just too much to bear so I had to file for bankruptcy. Being able to buy a car with bad credit requires me to have a minimum income of $1500.00 a month and I just don’t make enough even with child support (as if I get any the way my ex has been lately).
I’m very proud of my kids, though. Ronnie has really taken things in stride and even though I’m not able to buy the things that I want him to have, he has been very understanding. Every once in a while he wants a new toy and I check to see how much it costs, only to find out that I can’t afford it. When I explain to him that I might be able to later on, he always gives me a hug and says “that’s ok, mommy”. It nearly breaks my heart, but I do the best that I can.
I’ve been able to get assistance through the welfare program. They’ve encouraged me to work harder. I never thought that I would ever have to have food assistance, but pride doesn’t matter when there are hungry kids and limited income.
Tommorow I’m going to meet with the child support people. Hopefully they can help me to start getting child support payments collected.
